NEA Service Inc. (Newspaper Enterprise Association)
NEA Service Inc., commonly known as NEA, was a major American newspaper syndicate and photographic agency active from the early 20th century through the 1980s. It provided editorial, photographic, and illustration content to hundreds of local newspapers across the United States. NEA was a subsidiary of Scripps-Howard Newspapers and operated as a wire photo and content syndication service, supplying illustrated news features, press photographs, comics, and opinion columns.
NEA photographers covered domestic U.S. events, international conflicts, and technological developments—including civil defense drills, Cold War defense projects, and early nuclear topics. Their photographic content often appeared uncredited in local newspapers or simply credited to “NEA” or “NEA Photo.”
