DISTINCTIVE SACHET MARKS A-Day and B-Day Mail From BIKINI ATOLL BLASTS—
Distinctive sachets marked Able Day and Baker Day mail from the Operation Crossroads postoffice, aboard the USS Appalachian, headquarters for press and radio. The Test Able sachet depicts a B-29 flying over the bomb blast, and the Test Baker sachet, by Grant Powers, Marine Corps artist, outlines the vast water spout caused by the underwater explosion. The sachets were used on mail stamped only on A-Day, July 1, and Baker Day, July 25.
