SCHENECTADY, N. Y., Mar. 2 -- High-speed stroboscopic pictures, made by weather scientists of the General Electric Research Laboratory, reveal simulated raindrops may take many shapes and often can change shape rapidly.
In a study simulating raindrop behavior, scientists placed single drops of water under air resistance conditions similar to but in reverse from natural conditions. Instead of the drop falling against the air, a rush of air was caused to move upward against the drop, and thus drops experimented with “fell” upward rather than downward.
